Vintage Car in Cuba

One of the most intriguing characteristics about the lifestyle in Cuba, which I noticed on my trip there in 2000, was the abundance of vintage cars.   The cars are in meticulous shape, and as you get around Habana, you can see people shining their cars and socializing around these cars.  The ‘fifties’ cars are the primary style.  Rarely do you see a new vehicle, unless it is owned by an important person or a government employee.  I saw them when I was hanging out at the Hemingway Marina.

    I’m guessing that is a 1950 Oldsmobile 88.

I think you are right. It’s wild seeing these cars everywhere in Cuba, shiny and clean, and it is like going back in time.
